Travelling to summer in winter - suitcase list

Wet, cold, and dark – that's how it is for us in winter. Many yearn for warmth, sun, beach, and sea. The international jet set gathers in Florida, celebrities travel to the Maldives, adventurers visit Australia, and animal and wine enthusiasts head to South Africa in summer. If you prefer to stay in Europe, the Canary Islands offer pleasant temperatures.

For those who board the plane looking pale and shivering, a few things should be considered. Here's the iQ suitcase list and some tips for a successful winter vacation in the south:

  • Your circulation is running at a low in winter. Take it slow in the heat.
  • Your skin is pale and (almost) without protection. Pack your UV shirts, UV cap and UV hat, and seek more shade than sun.
  • Take nothing less than sunscreen with SPF 50 for your face, ears, hands, lips, and neck.
  • Take high-quality, natural, and pollutant-free sunscreen and care products in recycled packaging for your skin. Especially after the sun, the skin is irritated and needs moisture.
  • Don't forget the sunglasses and look for the UV400 label. Only then are your eyes well-protected.
  • Remember your medications if you need them.
  • Pack your swimsuit, but don't forget your ABC or snorkeling gear, a long-sleeved UV shirt, and your UV cap. In and around the water, UV radiation is up to 90 percent higher than on land.
  • Check the UV index of your destination in advance. Dermatologists recommend certified clothing from UV index 3 onwards. And in the south, the UV index is much higher than is healthy.
  • Avoid plastic packaging, drinks in plastic bottles, and always take your trash with you and dispose of it properly.
  • Enjoy the sun, but seek shade and do something different indoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Siesta is the best choice for carefree relaxation.
  • Go hiking, walk on the beach, jog, or cycle, and remember your UV cap, UV long-sleeve, and sustainable sunscreen for your face, ears, and other exposed areas.
  • Think of your children. Their skin needs even more UV protection than your own.
  • And now the standards: passport, credit card, money (consider the currency of the country), toothbrush, for a week: 7 T-shirts, underwear, one long and 2 short pants or skirts, and for entertainment, a good book or two.
