Why Sunscreen Should Only Be a Second Choice

Sunscreen is sold in plastic containers that, as non-biodegradable plastic, destroy our environment. When they end up in nature or the sea, these non-biodegradable plastic mountains kill plants and animals and entire ecosystems. The substances in many sunscreens further exacerbate this effect.

Certainly, sunscreen is important for protecting your skin. The protective function is achieved either mechanically through the reflection of light or through a chemical effect when penetrating deeper layers of the skin, depending on the type of product. However, this effect is fully functional only if you follow the recommended amount and apply a thick enough layer to your skin. Dermatologists recommend 2mg per square centimeter, which translates to – depending on your body size – 30 to 50 grams of sunscreen per application. Or around 2 to 4 tubes for a week-long vacation. If you use less, the protective function decreases, and the risk of skin disease increases.

Admittedly: You protect your face and other uncovered skin areas best with sunscreen. The alternative: avoid the strong midday sun or stay in the shade, where, by the way, about 50% of UV rays are still measured. Even better is sun protection clothing from iQ UV with reliable, certified UV protection, preferably made from recycled materials.

This way, you not only protect your skin but also the environment.
