Plastic - eternally durable, eternally rubbish

How did humanity celebrate the invention of plastic? Plastic can parties, toothbrushes, bottles, foils, disposable cutlery, drinking straws, sunglasses, laundry baskets, canisters, and so on. A lightweight material, easy to shape and process. That was the 1970s. Today we know that plastic is indeed a useful material in its use, but woe if it is broken or no longer needed. Then it is discarded and ends up on the world's billion-ton trash heap.

Single-use plastic products are now frowned upon, yet plastic bottles are still bought and disposed of everywhere, not returning to the recycling cycle as deposit bottles. The rest ends up in the yellow bin. And then?

Indeed, a large part of our waste is not reused in our own country but exported and often ends up environmentally harmful in the sea or is exposed to decay on gigantic landfills. However, it takes up to 450 years for a simple plastic bottle to decompose. Four hundred and fifty!

What to do to reduce plastic waste? The easiest way is not to buy plastic, especially single-use plastic. There is no product that could not also be available in glass bottles or other reusable packaging.

And what do we do at iQ-Company to reduce plastic waste? We recycle PET bottles collected around the seas and turn them into clothing. This gives new life to the former plastic waste. iQ UV sun protection clothing is very robust and durable. And if you don't want to wear it anymore, turn it into something else instead of throwing it away.

Clothing made from PET bottles is available from an increasing number of sustainable slow fashion or fair fashion labels. However, make sure that the clothing is actually made from recycled plastic because polyester is still mainly produced specifically for clothing. And that means not less plastic but more. Unfortunately, the price also plays an important role. Processing a PET bottle into granules, threads, and fabrics is laborious and therefore more expensive than producing new plastic material in a stinky chemical factory. That is the price for a good future for our planet.

And we do more: we do not use plastic for packaging, ship exclusively in recycled cardboard boxes, and do not attach labels to the clothing with plastic strings.

In short: we manufacture our collections sustainably and climate-friendly in Europe.
