Are you afraid of skin diseases?
Our Partner TÜV Rheinland Investigated This
In June 2023, when asked "Are you worried or afraid that you might suffer from a skin disease in the future because you are exposed to UV rays?" 16.6% of working individuals answered "Yes" or "Rather yes." Among the younger population, this concern is more pronounced (23.3%), and among people with high purchasing power, it is the strongest (32.6%).
69.8% of respondents have little to no concern about developing a UV-related skin disease. However, it is overly naive to exclude the risk. Skin cancer is the fastest-growing cancer worldwide. UV radiation is increasing even in temperate climates due to climate change. Individuals who work or sunbathe unprotected for many years can almost predict when they will first notice signs of skin cancer symptoms. TÜV recommends comprehensive protection against UV radiation.

How Do I Protect My Skin?
Technical, organizational, and personal protective measures should be combined according to the requirements of employers' liability insurance associations and accident insurance, as well as dermatologists and radiation researchers. Technical measures involve UV-resistant materials for coverings or shade providers. Organizational measures include scheduling tasks in the shade during midday, longer breaks between 11 am and 4 pm, or alternating work in the sun. Personal measures, provided by the employer, mainly include UV-protective clothing and sunscreen. In addition, an adequate amount of fluid intake of two to three liters without alcohol and sugar is recommended. The same applies to the private sector: avoid midday sun, wear sun-protective clothing, and generously apply sunscreen to exposed skin.
It All Starts at the Head
Skin doctors most frequently diagnose white skin cancer on the scalp, ears, nose, forehead, cheeks, and neck. These areas are considered particularly vulnerable as they are often insufficiently protected. The best head protection includes hats and caps with neck protection to cover and shade the head and face. In the construction industry, a protective helmet is mandatory. However, the neck and nape are left unprotected from UV radiation. iQ UV offers neck protection for helmets as a simple Velcro solution for quick on and off. You can find these, along with UV-certified hats and caps, in our shop. Sunglasses should also be part of the standard equipment in the sun. TÜV recommends a good UV protection with a 4-H rule for UV protection: Shirt, Pants, Hat, and a high sun protection factor.
