Important information about products & service

Where is our UV-protection clothing manufactured in Europe?

We source our fabrics from Italy and France. The production of our iQ-UV protective clothing takes place in Poland and Portugal. (Except for UV caps and UV hats, which are manufactured in Myanmar or China.)

How safe and reliable is the UV protection of iQ UV clothing and accessories?

In addition to our many years of experience and specialization in UV protective clothing, our products are regularly tested by independent and well-known testing institutes such as TÜV Rheinland or the Hohenstein Institute. With iQ-UV, we guarantee your safety in the sun.

Can my body still produce enough vitamin D while wearing UV clothing?

Yes, the body receives enough sun exposure on the face, hands, and eyes to produce sufficient vitamin D.

What do “Natural material” and “Cooling material” mean?
NATURAL:

This fabric combines the excellent wearing properties of the natural fiber TENCEL® with a UV-protective outer layer made of polyester (UV protection 50+). The double-layer construction provides a particularly pleasant, silky-soft feel. The material feels soft on the skin and actively wicks moisture away from the body. This creates a consistently cool and dry wearing experience – ideal for outdoor temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees.

Composition: 64% recycled polyester, 36% TENCEL®.

COOL:

Cooling high-performance fabric – a single-layer synthetic material made from recycled fibers with permanent UV protection 50+. It is extremely lightweight, highly breathable, and particularly comfortable on the skin – ideal for midsummer.

The material quickly transports moisture to the surface, where it evaporates. This effect creates active cooling of the skin and supports a continuously fresh wearing experience, even on very hot days. Ideal for outdoor temperatures above 22 degrees.

Composition: 100% recycled polyester.

How is the high UV protection achieved?

The high UV protection results from the interaction of two components: on the one hand, the UV-reflective properties of the raw materials used, and on the other hand, the tight fabric structure and special processing of iQ-UV textiles. iQ-UV protection is purely physical, without any chemicals or additional impregnation. iQ-UV protective clothing is made exclusively from the raw materials listed in the material composition, mostly recycled, and we do not use any chemical or mineral UV blockers. This ensures that iQ-UV protection is permanent and reliable, and remains effective even after frequent wear and many washes.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

UPF 50+ means that you can increase your skin’s natural protection by a factor of 50. With iQ-UV 50+ clothing, you can stay in the sun 50 times longer than without protection. Of course, only the skin covered by UV-protective clothing is protected. Example: If you have skin type 2, your natural protection lasts about 15 minutes without damaging your skin. With iQ-UV 50+, you are protected for 50 × 15 minutes and can enjoy the sun safely all day long.

Do I still need sunscreen under a UV shirt?

No, under an iQ-UV shirt you are perfectly and safely protected. Exposed skin areas must still be protected with sunscreen – we recommend at least SPF 30.

What do UPF, SPF and LSF mean?

UPF stands for “Ultraviolet Protection Factor”, SPF for “Sun Protection Factor”, and LSF for “Light Protection Factor”. All three describe the factor by which the skin’s natural protection time is extended.

How much UV radiation does iQ UV clothing block?

Our clothing blocks over 99% of UV-A and UV-B radiation.

What does PSA stand for?

PSA stands for “personal protective equipment” or “personal safety equipment”. It refers to equipment worn or held by a person to protect against risks that may endanger health or safety (e.g., UV radiation from the sun).

PPE may only be placed on the market if it complies with the requirements of the European PPE Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/425).

Does iQ-UV clothing protect against UV-A and UV-B radiation?

iQ-UV clothing and caps protect against more than 99% of UV-A and UV-B radiation.

Does clothing color affect UV protection?

Darker colors have a higher UV protection factor than lighter colors. However, the stated UV protection factor is also achieved in the lightest colors.

How is UV protection tested at iQ-UV?

All iQ-UV protective products are tested according to the world’s most recognized standard AS/NZS 4399 – also known as the Australian UV 50+ standard. Our elastic swimwear collection is additionally tested according to UV Standard 801.

Does UV protection decrease in water?

The UV protection of our clothing and caps remains above UPF 50+ in both dry and wet conditions.

Does iQ-UV clothing release microplastics during washing?
Are nanoparticles used in our UV protective clothing?

No, our UV protective clothing does not contain nanoparticles.

Does our clothing also protect against UV-C radiation?

UV-C radiation exists only in space; Earth’s atmosphere only allows UV-A and UV-B radiation to pass through.

Can I wash iQ UV clothing in the washing machine?

Yes, our UV protective clothing is machine washable. Please follow the care label. TIP: Turn the garments inside out and/or place them in a laundry bag. You can use standard full or color detergent. Do not use fabric softener.

Can I wash iQ-UV caps?

Yes, our caps and hats can be washed in the washing machine at 40 degrees.

Does fabric softener affect UV protection?

Since we do not use any chemical UV filters or impregnations in production, the excellent UV protection of 50+ remains intact even when washing with fabric softener. However, fabric softener reduces breathability and absorbency. We generally do not recommend using fabric softener as it also harms the environment.

Does UV protection wash out?

No, the excellent UV protection remains even after at least 25 washes. This applies to both our clothing and caps.

Can iQ-UV clothing be used in swimming pools (chlorinated water)?

Yes, because we use the best elastane: XTRA LIFE LYCRA®, making our UV clothing 5 to 10 times more resistant to chlorine than conventional elastane. This keeps the garments looking new for a long time and preserves their elasticity and fit. This applies to chlorine levels in German swimming pools.

Can I use iQ-UV clothing in lakes or the sea?

Yes, it is perfectly suited for this purpose. It does not lose its fit, and the excellent UV protection 50+ remains effective in water.

How do I remove yellow deodorant and sunscreen stains from white shirts?

Soak the shirt overnight in a mild stain remover (e.g., gall soap, without bleach). Then wash it according to the care instructions.
